Lazy days of summer

Today is the first day of summer vacation (yay!) and we are making the most of it by doing NOTHING- just sitting around in our pjs and loving it! I can't wait for all the fun summer activities to start but today I will enjoy the freedom that summer brings....

~not having to watch the clock trying to get Julia out the door with a healthy breakfast, a packed lunch, signed homework logs, and a decent hairdo (with 3 girls, that is a chunk of time itself).

Poor Bella is not an early breakfast eater but always wanted to eat with Julia before school. It will be much easier feeding them when they are hungry instead of by the clock.

~ Not having to also watch the clock at night to make sure they get a full night's sleep before the alarm goes off in the morning. Summer break means a lot more freedom and flexibility.

~getting up early with the sun (I really do) especially if that means a little time to myself. I am addicted to my daily iced coffee in the morning. I have mastered making it just like Starbucks and even bought a reusable cup with a reusable straw- there is something about drinking with a straw that just makes it better. :)

~flip flops and dresses! Julia's school has a dress code which meant polos, solid pants/shorts and closed toed shoes every day. I will be happy to pack it all away for the summer and get back to easy wardrobe choices.
~Watching the girls play together. Camille now wants to be wherever her sisters are. The older 2 often lock themselves in their room because that is where we keep the forbidden toys (like Legos) away from Camille. She follows them back to their room and waits patiently outside the door. She was all smiles when she got in and felt like a big girl. She is going to be so sad when they both go to school in August!

Finally in!

Happy Summer!

No more baby mullet

Camille has been was overdue for her first haircut. She had the classic baby mullet! She did great for her first hair cut- it didn't hurt that she was distracted with lots of toys and animal crackers. She looks so cute and grown up!

Dirty feet

My kids rarely have filthy feet which is not necessarily a good thing or something I brag about. It's not that they are super clean all the time- it's that I don't prompt them to play outside and just get dirty enough. They love being outside but not enough "hands and feet in the dirt" fun. Today, during Camille's nap, Bella and I sat in our driveway and made beautiful (Bella's description) chalk drawings. Yes, I know this doesn't really count as "hands in the dirt" fun but we have enough dust around here so I count is a dirty. :)

This summer, I will try to embrace more messy fun and let go a little. Pinky swear!

But I also acknowledged my type A self as I promptly threw Bella into the bath.

Fun in the sun

If our Arizona summers were like today, it would be perfect! Just hot enough to enjoy a popsicle and playing in the water. We ended up filling our plastic play pool and played outside all afternoon. The girls loved playing together- especially after Bella's return.

After a while, Camille was completely bare naked and getting into mischief. She loves to lick rocks- yes, lick. I think she knows that if she eats them, I will have to dig it out of her mouth. So, she licks them and quickly puts them down, somehow avoiding any consequences.

Only 19 more days of school! Looking forward to a fun summer 2010!
